Damned Souls and a Sangria (The Guild Codex: Spellbound Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 3,891 ratings

Once upon a time, I was your average spunky redhead with the lamest employment history ever, a shaky relationship with my only family member, and no idea what I was doing with my life.

Now, I'm a pseudo mythic with the best bartending job in the world, the most amazing (and hot) best friends I never knew I needed, and a guild of misfit magic-users who've become my extended family.

And I'm about to lose it all.

In my desperation to save Ezra, I stumbled into a web of ruthless deception—and seriously pissed off a sleeping hydra. Now its every murderous head is turned toward me and my guild, and I don't know how to stop it. I'm not sure I can.

I'm not sure anyone can.

But if I don't, we're all doomed—Ezra, Aaron, Kai, and my beloved guild.

The Guild Codex: Spellbound, the complete series

The Guild Codex: Spellbound

Available in Kindle, Audiobook, and Paperback!

Mages, psychics, sorcerers, druids, demons—and a human with a feisty attitude, no magic, and one last chance at gainful employment. Join Tori as she dives headfirst into the world of mythics as the human bartender of a disreputable guild in the opening series of the expansive Guild Codex world.

The Guild Codex world

Welcome to the Guild Codex

Four series, one magical world.

This expansive urban fantasy world includes four separate series: Spellbound, Demonized, Warped, and Unveiled. They can be read as standalone adventures or as one huge interwoven story, but wherever you start, you're in for a thrill ride of magic both whimsical and dangerous, fast-paced adventure and mystery, heart-warming friendships, and tantalizing slow-burn romance.

Spellbound

When feisty redhead Tori landed a job at a sketchy pub, she had no idea she'd just joined a magic guild. And the three guys she drenched with a margarita during her first shift? Yeah, they were mages. She's about to get a crash course in the world of magic and mythics.

Hilarious and heartwarming, The Guild Codex: Spellbound is perfect for readers who enjoy sassy heroines, found family, underdogs, humorous banter, slow-burn romance, and a hidden-magic world so immersive you'll be watching for mythics on the streets.

Demonized

When shy bookworm Robin found a hellish creature imprisoned in her uncle's basement, she never intended to make a contract with the rare, deadly demon. And their contract? His protection in exchange for... cookies. There's no way that could go wrong.

Blending thrilling action with an irresistibly slow romance, The Guild Codex: Demonized is perfect for readers who enjoy heroines who grow into their strength, demons with attitude, unlikely partnerships, frequent doses of humor, and a love story spanning millennia.

Warped

When psychic conman Kit is arrested, all he wants to do is escape. Instead, he finds himself partnered with by-the-books MagiPol agent Lienna and tasked with bringing down his ex-partner-in-crime. That might make escaping custody a tad more difficult.

Explore the magical FBI of the mythic world, MagiPol, in The Guild Codex: Warped alongside their most unlikely new agent. This series is perfect for readers who love off-beat heroes, pop culture, hilarity, buddy-cop stories, and wicked cool psychic powers.

Unveiled

When ex-convict and incompetent witch Saber encounters the notorious Crystal Druid, she tries to kill him. Then she discovers a mysterious fae on a deadly rampage. Together, they have a chance to stop it—if she can resist stabbing her new ally.

Delve into the dark, dangerous world of druids in The Guild Codex: Unveiled. This series is perfect for readers who enjoy a fierce, troubled heroine, intense banter, mysterious magic, otherworldly fae, and a heart-rending second-chance romance.

I'm a big fan of Cris Dukeheart and think she's the perfect narrator for both Spellbound's Tori and Demonized's Robin.-- "Lovely Audiobooks"

Annette Marie is the best-selling author of The Guild Codex, an expansive collection of interwoven urban fantasy series ranging from thrilling adventure to hilarious hijinks to heartrending romance. Her other works include YA urban fantasy series Steel & Stone, its prequel trilogy Spell Weaver, and romantic fantasy trilogy Red Winter.

Her first love is fantasy, while fast-paced adventures and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She lives in the frozen winter wasteland of Alberta, Canada (okay, it's not quite that bad) with her husband and their furry minion of darkness—sorry, cat—Caesar. When not writing, she can be found elbow-deep in one art project or another while blissfully ignoring all adult responsibilities.

I remember starting off this series a little hesitant. The first book is heavy on the action and urban Fantasy style put pulls you in like none before. The last installment had some long anticipated romance included. But Damned Souls and a Sangria did not disappoint. There was a fun dip in the middle where it read as if it was the ending of the book but then the ball started rolling again to end with a bang. The action was all a bit on the heavy side. Where I thought for a short while. 'Just get it over yet. How long can a action scene last". As always where the characters amazing. World building to get lost in and a story to keep on reading and get endless lost until you hit that last page and you realize it is the end of the book.A good thing to know is that this is not the end of the characters and we are probably get to read about them in the other books from the The Guild Codex: Unveiled Series and The Guild Codex: Demonized Series. I am for sure reading them all :)QuoteThe atmosphere grew heavy. All the hair on my body stood on end, and tingles rushed over my skin as an intangible weight settled over me. My perception of the pub, its paneled walls, and even the stool I sat on grew even more distant. Sabrina didn’t move, her back rigid and tendons standing out in her thin wrists.

I absolutely loved it. The characters are complete, not perfect, but completely lovable and honorable, a full fascinating and complex magical world and a story that grips you from page one all the way through. My favorite and much anticipated reads. Also a am super glad you are expanding on Zac. He mostly above all is the most intriguing mysterious and enigmatic of your characters. One thing I didn't really get though or feel, it didn't come across in reading the books, was why Tori and everyone where so angry at Zac. And why they felt he had betrayed them so badly. He saved her and them over and over. Came to the rescue. No he isn't perfect,, but also not that bad. Mostly really good honorable. I was a bit mad at how Tori treated him. He has been alone, he hasn't had besties to have his back at every turn. So decisions are different because he has only had himself to accomplish all and stay alive. What I'm saying is it is unclear what he did was so unforgivable. Maybe I missed something. Some don't have the luxury of all the back up when attempting the impossible to land where they need to. Thanks a pure joy to read

My first contact with Annette Marie’s books was through Audible, with Three Mages and a Margarita. I loved listening to every minute of it. The characters are well developed, and have real human traits and feelings. I laughed out loud at some of the situations that Tori, the main female character, gets herself into. And Annette has built a complete world, where magic is known about-but not understood. She has thought out every detail, and makes her readers a part of her created world. I’m not sure what exactly to write about this book! It doesn’t seem like a conclusion to the Spellbound book series. It does resolve “most” of the stories in this series, but there are still unanswered questions. Tori, Ezra, Aaron, and Kai are all featured in this book; but the main focus is still on Tori and Ezra. As part of an extended series, readers really need to have read the previous Spellbound books, and the Demonized ones that all intertwine with them to fully understand and appreciate this one. And it wouldn’t hurt to have read the first book in the new Warped series, because new characters are brought in. But know this, once you start with Annette Marie’s books, there is no stopping. They are that good!

I’ve read her Spell Weaver and Steel and Stone series, and I am just amazed at her ability to write such detailed, enjoyable, and believable stories. Spellbound may be completed, but Annette has moved on to other new series set in the same world. She’s already released the first book- Warping Minds and Other Misdemeanors (The Guild Codex: Warped Book 1), and I, for one, cannot wait to read The One and Only Crystal Druid (The Guild Codex: Unveiled Book 1) when it releases next year. Don’t let the tags of New Adult and College Fantasy deter you- I’m retired, and these books grab and hold your attention as well as any other “adult” author. Kudos to Annette Marie for being such a talented woman, able to illustrate her characters, and write their stories. I can’t wait for her next release!

The conclusion to the Spellbound series in the Guild Codex universe did not disappoint. It was fast paced, epic with thrilling twists and turns. The race to save Ezra was a wild ride that was totally worth the wait. We saw all three of our series combine forces (plus my fav druid Zak!) to take out the big baddies. The ending was really well done and I loved the epilogue. I'm glad Tori and Ezra (plus the entire gang) all got their happily ever after!

A climactic end to a great series, this one leaves you breathless. The action and suspense is non-stop. This conclusion has more to do with the lovely Ezra, really, than Tori.

I’m torn about this conclusion. Tori is almost overshadowed in this book by all the other strong well-developed characters. Her character development stalls in all the frantic action and focus on others. Mostly, Tori’s role seems to be to recover her people and weapons; both of which are just handed to her. I like that one of these opportunistic weapons is her absent magic, in a return to the clever victories that define this series. But I expected more about Tori confronting her lack of magic and acceptance in a magic world. Somehow all the action without this evolution feels a little empty.

The plot is exciting as all the key characters from both this and the Demonised series return for this final clash. I was thrilled to see Zac back. The male characters in this are heart-breaking; Ezra’s demon half and Zac in particular.

I like that this series is more adult than others from Marie, as signalled by the alcohol theme in the book names. There is finally some romance in this book, but it’s still a minor part to this mostly young adult action adventure.

Four stars for a satisfying conclusion for the plot and happy endings for many characters, but missing something for the over-shadowed heroine.

I have read most of her books, and I have to say she's great. Her ways of writhing keeps us hooked to the story thill the last page and left wanting.
But The Guild Codex series, is definitely my favorite, Spellbound or Demonized, really I loved them all and can't wait for the next book to come out! The world she create with this series has it's own special twist of fun, supernatural mystery and suspense action we get addicted to sooOO easily! Add to that how much we get attached to those characters she comes up with throughout their various exciting adventures. Plus I really like how she comes up with these sub series all working together inside The Guild Codex, bringing us along in new adventures and making us fall for those characters we had just met in Spellbound.
Thank you Annette Marie for all your great books!

I have by now read nearly every book by Annette Marie and each and every one is awesome, but the Guild Codex series with its interconnections and interwoven plot is by far my favorite. I have eagerly anticipated the arrival of Damned Souls and a Sangria for the last month and after now having read it I must say, it was so worth the anticipation.
Annette Marie paints her characters in a way, that makes them seem like people one could actually know, and so you feel for each and every one of their battles, bleed and cry with them and hope against hope that everything will turn out alright in the end.

Woaw. I'm sad this is Tori's last story. I've become quite fond of her and her guild. One more book unti this is goodbey to the crow and hammer guild. But on a happier note we still have Kit's story and in so so long Zak's story as well! I was hoping so hard Zak would have his story told. I have read many books from many authors but really Anne Marie is one of the few author of whom i've read every book. And it always leave me the same. Sad to say goodbey but happy to be part of it. Now on another matter. What about blackfire Anne Marie ? The suspense is killing me!😅❤
