Built for Goodness: Revisiting Genesis for Answers to Divisive Issues Kindle Edition

If earth is billions of years old then why is it that we can only trace our ancestry to Adam who lived just 6,000 years ago? Was this planet occupied by beings other than man, and if so, what happened to them? Is the creation narrative of Genesis chapter 1 that of an original creation or is it about the renovation of a broken planet? If it is a renovation, what brought about its desolation? Why is there ongoing conflict between the sexes? Is it because men are from Mars and women from Venus or is there something more mystical about the male and female genders that we need to understand? How is man constituted? Is he just flesh and blood or does he also possess a spirit and soul? Does he have a predestined purpose on this earth and if so, can he know it? And what exactly is the Sabbath all about? Should we observe a special day of the week as holy, failing which we will come under condemnation, or is there something more to this idea of rest? To answer these questions I turned to the most logical place, where it all began - the Book of Genesis. I aim to show that it is okay to acknowledge that we live on a very old planet in an even older universe. I will also show from the scriptures that the narrative we refer to as the creation story is really that of a renovation of a planet that had been destroyed by pre-Adamic beings who were engaged in celestial wars. I will also revisit what is meant by God resting on the seventh day and its relationship to Sabbath-keeping, with the aim of shedding some more light on this otherwise divisive doctrine. In a nutshell, I hope to show that the Sabbath is not about a particular of the week day or about cessation of work but that true rest is actually about doing good works for the needy anytime and anywhere. Finally, I will dig deeper into the creation of Adam and Eve to get to the root of the origins of the sexes and their relationship to each other. Through this examination I hope to answer some tough questions on gender and marriage. Mostly, I wish to convince you that you are not here by accident but that you were fearfully and wonderfully made and predestined for goodness. I will also press the idea that man can only effectively realise his mandate to subdue and rule over creation if he chooses to remain in the image of God, and that it is to this end regeneration of the fallen human spirit is necessary.
