This book grabbed my attention from the start! This was my first read from this author, but the book description sounded very interesting. I am so glad to have given it a try. I loved the characters, especially Sara, who is bad-ass, sassy, and too curious for her own good. The twists, turns, and suspense kept me reading straight though until I had finished it! There were a couple of places where the author lost me for a minute, but everything was soon revealed. So enjoyed this book!

The read was fast and captivating. I didn’t expect much with this author (unknown to me).

I liked the lead characters which both demonstrated fortitude attributed to their athletic backgrounds.

The Long Run, by Robert J. Brodey is about a group of modern day nomads who seek solitude in remote living areas and adventure in long distance running, rock climbing, and mountain biking. Outlaws who scheme and produce illicit drugs may seek similar environments without exercise. What is interesting about both communities is their reliance on technology: communication and GPS. Also interesting is the clash of their codes of conduct and goals that drive their mutually exclusive behavior. As a distance runner, I enjoyed the descriptions of the trail runner, Levi. Sara is amazing as a free form climber who uses no special gear to ascend almost sheer rock faces. The dope cooking criminals are fascinating in their remorseless use of violence to maintain their lawless way of life. When the 2 communities are separated, peace. When their paths cross, war. The Long Run is a good novel filled with positive and negative intentions and actions

I bought this book because the marketing for it stated that it was about a long distance runner and a rock climber. It really wasn’t about either. This book rambles and the plot line makes no sense. iI was very disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping read that let me escape into my head

You know that book that flows and is delightful reading you don’t want to put it down? This story teaches you new things and makes you yearn to get out into the outdoors to explore with awe and wonder. Levi/Ethan is someone we all know and can relate to. You can’t help but love him. My partner who’s not a reader has even picked up this book and it’s cool seeing him get lost in the story. Highly recommended and even better reading on holiday when you can take it all in at once. Looking forward to the author’s next adventures. X

I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read. The metaphor of long-distance running, alluding to the long game of life, adds depth to this heartfelt twisty turny crime thriller.
