Get A Job, Keep A Job: Soft Skills They Didn't Teach You at School Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 7 ratings

A degree doesn’t make you exceptional!

The world is full of well-educated, brilliant young graduates. So, what do you have to do to be noticed and get a job? The answer is all about marketing yourself and having a strategy for setting yourself apart from others vying for the same position in this competitive workplace. You have to stand out and prove that you’re better than the hundreds of other applicants with the same credentials.

Once you’ve got the job, what does it take to keep the job and be successful? While 87% of recent graduates feel well prepared to hit the ground running after earning their degrees and diplomas, only half of the hiring managers agree. Find out what employers say new recruits lack - and the skill sets they need to succeed. In this book, you’ll acquire skill sets crucial for success in the workplace – many of them soft skills that you probably didn’t learn at school.

You’ll discover;

  • What it takes to set yourself apart from others applying for the same job.

  • Strategies for a strong online presence.

  • Your critical first year, how to navigate it and why it matters.

  • Recommendations for professional behaviour.

  • Mastering conversation skills needed to network your way to success.

  • The best practices for business communication.

  • Become proficient at holding and participating in business meetings.

  • How to ace an interview over a meal.

…and much more

In this book, Pat Stonehouse shares her years of experience working with major corporations, universities, and colleges.
Get a Job, Keep A Job is a no-nonsense book that takes you through how to position yourself when job searching, the power skills you will need to survive that first year, and how to succeed in your career—invaluable advice for anyone new to the job market and workplace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every graduate should have this book
Reviewed in Canada on May 6, 2022
This book is a critical next step in learning for the new graduate. As she says a degree doesn’t make you exceptional—it’s a basic requirement. How you set yourself apart from others competing for the same job is where the soft skills come to play. She does an excellent job giving newbies a place to start developing their soft skills.
