4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 68 ratings

When scouts and messengers from the Night House disappear, Thea makes it her mission to find out why. As the granddaughter of one of the founding couples of New Earthen Society, she's determined to prove herself worthy of their legacy. Her investigation leads to the House of Chaos and the man who once swept her off her feet before inexplicably walking away.

Aries, known as a recluse who ruthlessly protects his territory, inherited his anger and life mission from his grandfather. He plans to reopen the portal to Arkavia and reclaim his birthright, but he can’t do it alone. The one person who can help him is the very woman he swore to avoid.

Thea needs to learn the fate and location of her people, and Aries needs the power flowing in her veins. After forming an uneasy alliance, they soon realize there are forces more deadly and conniving working against them. With their past, trust doesn’t come easy, but if they can work together they might just survive.

*House of Chaos is a standalone set in the same world as The Night House.*

Wow did I enjoy that! Thea is a great character and I loved reading her story. All her interactions with Aries were so great and I loved how everything fit together. The world building in this book was very cool and it was interesting to see where they ended up!

Myth: 5/5

This book takes place in the same world, but multiple generations after The Night House. I love how J.C. McKenzie has done this with some of her series. They’re still standalone fantasy romances, you get a new couple each time, but you still get to build and play in the magical world you were already familiar with.

Thea, a scout and direct descendant of the Night House is fierce and strong, she’s on her own mission when she’s swooped up by Aries of House of Chaos and a forced bargain is struck. Their chemistry is a delight as they work through their current secrets and passed missed opportunities while on a dangerous journey that could leave them stranded.

Magic: 4/5

Thea and Aries are both magic wielders, direct descendants from old Arkavian lines. If you find yourself interested in the history, checkout Night House, though it’s not required to read this book. While I love Thea’s defensive magic, I can’t get enough of her going feral with her knives, buckle up for those rides.

Overall: 4.5/5

I loved this one even more than Night House, Thea and Aries were spectacular characters, making plenty of mistakes on their road to realizing what they could have with each other.

This is my second JC McKenzie book, and another winner for me. Baby couldn't sleep 2 nights in a row, and I was happy because it meant more reading time, which I think is pretty high praise.

Thea and Aries are a wonderfully matched pair for snark and banter. The chemistry was immediate (something I've found McKenzie does super well) and the build up tantalizing and real.

The fact that the importance of open communication is a prominent theme along the way is also refreshing, as nothing frustrates me more in fiction than unnecessary secret keeping.

The last few chapters felt a bit rushed, but was still satisfying. I'm already looking forward to more by this author, and will enjoy the backlist while I wait.

I received an advance copy of this book for review consideration.

I bo
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of HOUSE OF CHAOS". This is an incredible journey with narrow escapes, intrigue, mystery, finding your soul mate, hate, love, secrets, humor, magic, you can put this book down its a page turner.
Thea is granddaughter of Tata & Thane she's a scout for her house she is searching for answer to the missing Scouts & Messengers for Night House she's determined to prove her herself worthy of their legacy.
Thea's investigation leads her to the House of Chaos & the man who once swept her off her feet Aries e's a known recluse who ruthlessly protects his territory, he inherited his anger from his grandfather he plans to re-open a portal to Arkavia & reclaim his birthright but can't do it alone he needs the one person he swore to avoid Thea.
I definitely recommend to get this well written story following Thea & Aries journey their banter & snarkiness was quite comical as they travel together trying to stay alive it was a very interesting unique story that pulls you right into all chaos so well worth the read I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

I enjoyed The House of Night but House of Chaos will blow you away...
We get the granddaughter of Taya and Thane and she is one tough female. Thea is a scout, and she is out searching for answers, and also her missing scouts. She is kidnapped more or less by Ares.
Ares has always admired Thea. This female though isn't buying anything he spouts from his mouth. However, she is determined to see things through. These two take us on one heck of a rollercoaster ride into another realm and time. Can they survive? And will Thea give in to her feelings for Ares? Can they get back to Earth unscathed?

Fantastic story and I am hoping there will be more.

Return to the wild world that was introduced in The Night House when Earth as we new it was invaded via a portal and life ended. This time the granddaughter of Taya and Thane is the star. Thea is a scout for her house and is searching for answers when she runs into Ares and begins an adventure that kept me reading to the end to see what they would discover. But of course Thea had to figure out what Ares real goals were. Loved the story and the characters. Found Thea and Ares were a riot as they travel around and try yo stay alive. Good story and good characters to enjoy. I received an early copy and loved it.

This book takes place years later from The Night House. It can be read as a standalone and follows a new couple with action, danger, mystery, romance and more. I found it to be a great read and I look forward to more stories in this world!

Thea's journey is a must read for all fantasy fans. It is filled with action, suspense and a nice slow burn romance. The different worlds and houses they visit were written in such detail it was easy to visualize. This Author did not disappoint and I look forward to more
