The Void Revealed begins an incredible new adventure of epic proportions with a strong female lead.
Elise, the intended ruler of Windhold, is thrust into peril when she is forced to enter the spellbinding and magical world of the Void, a place of myths and legends, but also home to the dreaded Red Death. She must quickly learn the rules of this hidden world, or her life will be soon forfeit.
High above the Void lies the fortress of Windhold, perched on a monolith of natural rock called the Spire. Intended to be the savior of the people, the fortress now holds one of the last vestiges of humankind and is controlled by the ruthless leader of the Brotherhood.
The situation is precarious when the Fury, whose devastation formed the Void seven hundred years ago, is showing signs of return. Rescuing their world will be up to Elise’s tenacity and her unique group of steadfast companions and intelligent creatures that join her quest. They must find a way out of the Void, stop the corruption of a would-be dictator, and save everyone from the oncoming Fury. Will there be enough time?
However, there is even a more dangerous threat that looms on the horizon, one whose very existence has been lost for thousands of years. Could this foe be the source of the supernatural Fury and, if so, what is its motivation? The epic fantasy series, Origo Essentia, will reveal all the answers to the mystery.

Review

"A Deeply Symbolic and Riveting New Fantasy WorldEthier shows a keen sense of the zeitgeist of his characters and uses symbolism that transcends genre, appealing to readers on a visceral, recognizable level. Like an onion being slowly peeled, the world-building becomes increasingly impressive, and readers will be excited for the remainder of the Origo Essentia series. The Void Revealed is a striking start, thanks to a story that is both timely and timelessly entertaining. A deeply symbolic and riveting new fantasy world." Self-Publishing Review

From the Back Cover

The first book in the ORIGO ESSENTIA SERIES.Sitting atop the Spire, the residents of Windhold live their lives governed by the theocratical Brotherhood and the secular leadership of the Sentinel. Below them lies the Void, a barren land filled with the Red Death that appeared with the last blistering hot winds of the Fury. The corruption inside the spiritual body within Windhold has grown and twisted and ultimately left all the peoples at the mercy of a madman. The only hope of the people is the Aspirant, Elise, who has been groomed to replace the Sentinel and bring a reasonable approach to an ever more radical community. When the Aspirant is intentionally stranded in the Void by a Brotherhood implemented scheme, Brand, a Sentry Guard and his team venture into the forbidden Void to recover her. What they find there is hardly the barren land they expected and it has them questioning everything they have been taught about the history, the science, and the spiritual meanings behind their entire culture. You'll enjoy meeting the wide variety of characters that populate these pages from Kree, an enormous black bird that communicates with Brand, to Chuff, a large, bipedal feline, who adopts Elise as her sister.Welcome to the Spire.

Stephen J. Ethier has a lifelong interest in science fiction and fantasy, both the reading and the writing of it. Although he has written over thirty-five books in other fields, he is excited to delve into the world of fiction. Currently he has published three fiction novels with many ideas for more.

He paints and draws with precision and feeling, carves, sculpts, and builds with real talent, and was a wonderful teacher with boundless patience and enthusiasm. He even moved quickly from novice to expert in most sports he attempted. And, when it comes to the written word, his ability to paint vivid pictures is one of his most impressive gifts as a writer.

In his career as a college instructor, he taught ages 18-senior in a variety of disciplines in a number of countries. And, as time went on, he developed his burgeoning skills into many academic books on computer-aided design, modeling in three dimensions, architectural design, animation, mechanical design, and other areas in that broad field.

To summarize, he has taken his skills in a variety of areas and intermixed them into the conception, creation, and production of his books. He designed and produced the covers for all his technical books as well as his three novels.

The Void Revealed (Origio Essentia Book 1) by Stephen Ether is the first in a series of fantasy novels based on a ruined world with a strange set of beliefs. Long ago there was a horrible destructive force known as the Fury. It left the world in ruin and created a massive hole in the land. This hole is known as the Void. It is shrouded in fog at all times, so no one knows what is down below. Rivers flow over the edges of the hole, yet the hole never fills to become an ocean or a lake. Does it have a bottom? Does it lead somewhere? In the center of the Void is a lone spire that stands above the fog. On top of the spire is Windhold, a lone fortress that protects what remains of humanity. The survivors believe that Elise, a young girl at Windhold, will become their new leader and take them into a prosperous new world. But, there are those who want to see her dead. While flying on an airship, someone sabotages one of the balloons and Elise falls deep into the Void. What she discovers there will amaze and terrify her, both about the Void and the truth of Windhold.
I really enjoyed this read. It had a bit of a slow beginning, but once the exposition had been handled it picked up a lot of speed and kept it up all the way through. The idea behind this was fascinating to me. A giant hole. There have been numerous horror and supernatural stories based around this idea and, while this was a fantasy, this one delivered an amazing story as well. The characters are well developed and the author has done a nice job of creating believable dialogue that moves the narrative forward. Fans of fantasy stories will enjoy this as well as fans of science fiction. I look forward to more installments in the series.

The Void Revealed is a great read and foundation for this series. I really liked the main character, Elise and thought she was well-developed and a strong character without being a cliché female heroine. The background to this society was given in a concise way and the tone set the stage for future events. The imagery and amount of detail that the author used to create this world was well done and really helped me feel like I was in the middle of the story. The only criticism that I would have is that there was so much detail early on that it seemed to delay the actual story from starting, and I often found my mind wandering to other things. Once the stage was set, however, the story went at a good pace that held my interest. I am interested in the following books in the series to see if some of that initial description can be cut out.

The Void Revealed (Origo Essentia Book 1) by Stephen Ethier is a wonderfully written and richly descriptive novel with brilliantly drawn settings and characters. The author weaves a well-crafted Sci-Fi Fantasy adventure that will captivate the reader’s attention from the start. Skillfully constructed, this exhilarating and suspenseful Sci-Fi will have you turning the pages from beginning to end.

The story unfurls in small acts, at first feeling slight to touch, then building in emotional substance. Into the spaces between the words, the author breathes a pulsating intensity that rolls like a motion picture camera. With an abundance of imagery in the writing style, it makes you feel like you are right there in the story, and that’s something I look for in a good book.

For fans of the genre looking for an interesting, three-dimensional, and stimulating read, this would come highly recommended. I’ll be looking forward to reading more from Stephen Ethier in the future. Five stars.

This book is a little longer than others are, so there is plenty of action for you to read about. There is a lot of time spent getting you familiar with the surroundings, the area, and the people in Windhold. It is almost as if you can feel like you are welcomed in and given a bird’s eye view of the area and its people. I like the character of Elise, she is someone that you don’t want to tangle with. She makes quite an impact in the book and she is memorable, even after you are finished with this book. Other characters are thought out completely too, where they do not feel like they were rushed. This is something I appreciate and gives the book a ton of atmosphere, which makes it even better. It features a cool universe that will likely keep getting better as the books keep being written.

Took too long to all the backstory, which could have been written as you go through flashback or subset within story. 3-4 chapters in it finally starts the real story. By then most peiple have given up. Otherwise it was a good read

I do not like science fiction but I got this one on a recommendation. I love the layout. It’s easy to read with more white space on the page. The characters became real for me and I actually cared about them. Perhaps I have crossed the sci-fi border. Keep writing s j Ethier. I’m a convert

5.0 out of 5 stars A descriptive masterclass.

From the bird called Kree, to the cabins of Windhold, the author writes his vision vividly for the reader to see. The characterisations of even the insignificant characters are all deeply written such that even their meagre contributions to the story are felt and remembered.
Many events which will at first appear shocking, are dealt with in such a tasteful manner that the reader is quickly soothed, compelled to continue.
The story itself is cleverly woven in chunks as lived by the characters, and pieces which at first seem vague are all neatly intertwined before the end into one.
At its heart the Void Revealed is a love story, but this love is overshadowed by political intrigue and masterful subterfuge, to the point where the reader thinks little of love. Other experiences within the Void only distract the reader further, and only at the end does the reward come. But this is only part one. I can’t wait for part two...
