After a drawn-out silence, Lexy clarified, “You’re not gone. Your perception of everything has been altered. All you have to do is embrace the change and accept the new version of yourself.”

“How do I do that? I used to imagine myself as a noble creature, a golden stallion or perhaps a lion. I know better now. I’m a hurricane, a plague, I’m an apocalypse. I am a Dragon. I’m a method of destruction.” Kayn knew Lexy understood what she was saying. She was also meant to be a method of destruction.

Lexy pointed at the lush landscape and exclaimed, “We can burn this field to ash if you want to. My instinct has always been to burn it. Even though you are meant to be a warrior, you will always have a choice. We choose to work with the Clan, instead of against them. We choose right over wrong. We choose when to be a lion and when to be a Dragon. We choose to be warriors instead of methods of destruction. You’re still the same person. • Dragons: There are green scaly Dragons in this series, but in most cases, the word Dragon refers to the ability to turn off emotions. Lexy is the Dragon of Clan Ankh. A Dragon is used as an assassin.

They solidified in the air above the deserted coliseum and landed on their feet in unison. An explosion of dust rose. For the first time, Kayn noticed how massive the coliseum was. She’d been out of it when the stands were full. Someone cleared their throat. A buffed, gorgeous guy strolled over and began shamelessly flirting with Lexy. Kayn glanced at Grey. He looked annoyed. Kayn nudged Grey and whispered, “Who is that?”

He whispered back, “That’s Silas. He’s Ankh. He won the Summit a long time ago and chose to stay. He appears to have a crush on Lexy. She was the star of the show this Summit."

“Keep it up and somebody might think you’re jealous,” Kayn teased as they followed the others.

Grey winked and quietly responded, “She’s my friend. I’m just looking out for her. Let’s just say, she’s made a few questionable choices as of late.”

Grinning, Kayn hip-checked Grey, teasing, “Right, just friends.” He wasn’t expecting it and laughed as he came close to toppling over. Lexy just fought everyone by herself. As always, she was unaffected by the violence she’d survived. Dragons could tuck traumatic emotions away. They appeared undamaged in the aftermath of a storm. Lexy’s scarlet hair flickered in the wind like crimson flames. Kayn’s hair ended up in her mouth. She tucked it behind her ears and glanced at her wrist, noticing its lack of always-present elastic bands. She felt someone’s eyes. When she peered up, Silas was grinning at her plight.

Silas spoke, “I’ve heard impressive things about you. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Kayn.”

Kayn took the immortal’s hand. He gallantly turned it over, kissed her palm and closed it. She felt sick to her stomach. Kevin used to do this. There’s no way he could have known. It was from a children’s book. With an uncomfortable smile, she held the hand he’d kissed protectively. Kevin… she was going to be forced to see him again. She wasn’t prepared for that. What difference did the timing make in the long term? What was done was done. They were done. Her best friend had now taken on a new role as her enemy. He didn’t matter anymore.
