Lady of Shame (Castonbury Park) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 20 ratings

'You're in danger of dishonoring the family name for good!'

Lady Claire must put pride above prattle if she is to shake off the not-so-respectable reputation of her youth. Swapping rebellion for reserve, she returns to her imposing childhood home, Castonbury Park, seeking her family's help. Penniless Claire needs a sensible husband…and fast!

But when the dark gaze of head chef Monsieur André catches her unwanted eye, he's as deliciously tempting as the food he prepares. Claire knows he's most unsuitable…even if the chemistry between them is magnetic. Risking her reputation for André would be shameful—but losing him could be even worse!

Born in England and now living in Canada, Ann grew up loving history, but majored in business, with history on the side. She has a husband and two lovely daughters and a Maltese Terrier called Teaser, who likes to sit on a chair beside the computer while she works.

Beginning her career as a University Administrator, her love of the past and the stories in her imagination brought her to a fork in the road.

After writing her first novel in 2000, a never-see-the-light-of-day-effort, and having her first book published in 2006, she decided to write full time in 2008 and hasn't looked back.

She loves the Georgian era, and within that, the period known as the long Regency. She also adores happy endings.

Every girls dream. A good hearted man who is handsome and can cook. I can't think of anything better. A good read.

I wanted to like this book. I was looking for a historical novel with a good story and the description seemed OK. However, it wasn't even a few pages in when the heroine meets the cook and instantly her blood boils, and there is sexual passion....seriously? Not even into the book more than a chapter and they meet again, both of them hot under the collar. Turn over the next page and she's dreaming he touched her breast. Really? I used to be able to pick up a historical romance and it was just that. Now everything marked Gothic, Regency or historical romance is little more than sleaziness, soft porn or in some cases, downright written porn. Change the year, change the location, change the heroine from a "lady" to a governess, still the same mediocre story with sex added. I am not saying this book got into graphic detail, don't know if it did or didn't. I couldn't read beyond the first so many pages, the writing was too verbose and was obviously all about the sexual tension between the cook and the heroine. How I wish for talented writers of yesteryear and some of today, thankfully, that can write a story and not have to rely on sex because they have no real content.
